Missing children in the USA

The case of Charley Ross was the first ever to receive media attention in the USA back in 1874. The 4 year old boy was kidnapped by two men who promised to buy Charley and his older brother Walter some fireworks. The kidnappers sent Walter to a shop, where he was later found, and left with Charley. The little was lost forever.
Sinse then, thousands of children have gone missing only in the USA.
In this article we focus on data from cases of American children from 1990-2016.

There has been a dramatic increase the latest years.

California, Florida and Texas have the highest ratings on missing children. Three countries (Canada, Mexico, Philippines) are included as the children were reported missing from there.

Comparatively more girls than boys have gone missing.

The data derived from SXSW Childfinder Hackathon by apeksharma and edygarcia. We would like to thank the two contributors and prompt whoever reads this to also contribute to this dataset. It might save a child.
